WSU Study Reveals Cannabis as a Sleep Savior

A delightful study shared by Washington State University (WSU) reveals the bedtime habits of cannabis enthusiasts, who have said goodbye to conventional sleep aids, opting instead for the calming sensation of the green herb. The study found a whopping 80% of 1,255 cannabis enthusiasts surveyed have parted ways with over-the-counter or prescription sleep aids, including the likes of melatonin and benzodiazepines.

Their nightly preference leans towards inhaling the ritualistic puff of a joint or vaporizing flower, two fast acting methods that have been shown to lull the enjoyer to rest. Delving deeper, author and psychologist Carrie Cuttler shares a charming discovery, “One of the findings that surprised me was the fact that people are seeking the terpene myrcene in cannabis to assist with sleep". Cuttler interprets the personal tales of individuals enjoying cannabis-induced dreams and alternative sleep aids. In the morning, the cannabis users reported a refreshing start to their day and heightened focus.

What's intriguing is that over 60% of the study's members claim to savor six to eight hours of sleep following a cannabis nightcap. A low 20% of patients can boast the same experience from prescription or over-the-counter sleep aids. Cannabis takes the spotlight here, guiding restless into a peaceful night's relief. The WSU study paints a picture of a bedtime ritual where joints and vaporized flowers lead the way to myrcene-infused dreams.

Maryland Empowers Cannabis Pioneers

The state of Maryland enters its latest chapter in its cannabis journey, extending an invitation to entrepreneurs in the industry. The Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA) has announced the beginning of applications for adult-use marijuana business licenses, with a reserved space for social equity businesses.

The MCA anticipates an allotment of 179 licenses sanctioning dispensaries, cultivators, and processors. This is not just an expansion but a shift toward empowering small business, inclusivity and shunning monopolization in the growing adult-use market. To this degree, individuals are granted one opportunity to apply per license type to ensure diversity prevails. No more than two applications can be submitted in the licensing round.

A social equity business in Maryland has a distinct definition. It's an enterprise where at least 65% of owners are based in designated "disproportionately impacted areas." These leaders must have studied or resided in these areas for a minimum of five of the last ten years.

In the green embrace of Maryland's cannabis market, where July's curtain unveiled this transformative play, the script continues to unfold. Sales may have danced in the autumn breeze, but the allure of adult-use products resonates, with licensed retailers composing a sonata that reached nearly $90 million in combined medical and retail cannabis products last month.

As the year rolls to a close, Maryland's cannabis journey persists. It is a journey that defied conventions in July with adult-use sale, opens arms of equity in November, and invites pioneers to travel on the path of progress. In this realm, where the aroma of cannabis mixes with the stench of industry, the journey is far from over. What awaits are the campaigns of those who dare to cultivate a future for cannabis not just as an industry, but a force of positive change, empowering our resilient communities and promoting the growth of a burgeoning market.
