Ohio Senate Adjusts Legal Cannabis: Approves No Home Grow and Adjusting Taxes

Ohio Senate representatives have proposed significant changes to the voter-approved cannabis legalization measure, State Issue 2. These changes, such as banning home cannabis grow and increasing the tax rate on marijuana products, emerge days before the law is set to take effect.

If these changes clear the Senate floor, they still require approval from the GOP-led House and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. The proposed changes aim to redirect tax revenue to general state funding, law enforcement training, substance abuse treatment, and safe driving training, rather than to local governments. Groups advocating for the original bill are criticizing the elimination of home growing and adjustments to THC levels.
Senate representatives will hopefully work to resolve the bill a balance to between safety concerns and public wishes.
